In this article, Andrea Teti analyses the politics and implications of the ‘assault’ on Israel’s embassy in Egypt, arguing that the country’s new military rulers are playing an old but dangerous game to try to compensate for their rapidly eroding legitimacy as defenders of Egypt’s pro-democratic revolution.
