Outre-Terre, Revue Européenne de Géopolitique, n. 29, 2011
This article aims to provide a possible explicative framework, focusing on the demographic and geo-economic aspects, of the geopolitical change affecting the Arab countries of the Mediterranean sea, and to draw the consequences that can flow on the Euro-Mediterranean relations. Particular emphasis is devoted to the demography of the Euro-Mediterranean area examining distribution, transitions, fertility and life expectancy of populations. Urbanisation, education, role of women and geo-economic factors such as labor market and unemployment of the younger generation in the Arab countries are considered by the author elements to be analysed very carefully in order to implement sound policy responses for future balanced Euro-Mediterranean relations.
