on Slate France – 20 Jul 2014
Multiculturalism in France is a denied phenomenon. Indeed, the multicultural nature of France has been denied for long time by the political authorities and a large part of social scientists. According to Laurent Chalard, ECIA Fellow, and Maryne Buffat, multiculturalism is a reality of the French territory. In fact, France has hosted voluntarily sizeable number of foreign populations, including of non-European origin, since the postwar boom. Despite this reality, the French democracy and its institutions do not assume politically the multiculturalism.
