Enzo Maria Le Fevre Cervini, ECIA fellow and member of the Task Force on the EU Prevention of Mass Atrocities, will participate in the “Improving the EU’s Capabilities to Prevent Mass Atrocities” Workshop organised by the Task Force. The Task Force for the Improvement of the EU’s Capabilities to Prevent Mass Atrocities was launched in January 2012 on the initiative of the Foundation for the International Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities and leading European experts with a view to producing a “Report on EU Prevention of Mass Atrocities”. After consultative meetings in London, Brussels and Paris, the Task Force will meet in Berlin to discuss with leading experts and practitioners its preliminary findings and recommendations. The meeting is co-organised by the Task Force, the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, the Centre for Global Cooperation Research, INEF, and the Foundation for the International Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities. The Task Force will present a set of recommendations based on its analysis of the EU’s strengths and weaknesses in early warning, pre-crisis engagement, preventive diplomacy, and response to mass atrocities. These findings draw on a review of best practices in this area coupled with the insights from interviews with officials of EU institutions and member states. The workshop will be conducted under the Chatham House Rule.
