In 2013 the French National Institute for Statistics and Economics (INSEE) will carry on a French population census and the public debate is focusing on the possibility of adding an “Arab” category in the statistics. Laurent Chalard took the opportunity to explain the complexity of this issue and why this ethnic category shouldn’t be included.
